The Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda shows are always fun and a little over the top. And this year’s show was no exception. For those of you wondering what Alta Moda means, it’s Italian for high fashion (or haute couture).
This year Dolce & Gabbana held their event in a street right in the middle of old Naples, Italy. It was a four-day celebration of Naples and of actress Sophia Loren who initially inspired Dolce & Gabbana to produce a lipstick and then an entire collection.
There were many references to Loren’s life in the collection, from a 1950s floral bathing suit and sash embroidered with Miss Elegance (after all it was winning a beauty pageant that kick-started her career) and the peasant blouse she wore in the 1954 film The Gold of Naples to the floral balconette bra dress from the film Marriage Italian Style.
Here are some of my favourites from the show.
